Insomnia, Summer in the South, A Quick Update & Letters to Santa

Well, here I am again. I didn't intend to write tonight, but after laying in bed for 45 minutes and not being able to fall asleep, I thought I'd get up and do something constructive until I felt more tired. So, here I sit, drinking my cup of herbal mint tea, basking in the light of the Christmas tree and actually enjoying the silence of my house at midnight. For some reason or another, it feels like I've downed three cups of regular coffee. I feel like I'm pumped up on some serious caffeine right now, even though I didn't touch a drop of it today.

South Carolina has been unusually warm the past few days. We have been breaking record temperatures of nearly 80 degrees. It feels a little out of sorts to be singing along with Jingle Bells on the radio, while wearing flip flops and a short sleeve shirt. I'm not complaining though. Anytime I can open up the windows and let the fresh air in, I'm happy, even if it is December! I just watched the weather channel, though, and we are going to be in the high 40's by the weekend. You can bet I'm going to be enjoying the warm weather while it lasts!

Speaking of enjoying the warm weather, my girls are having a blast playing outside. Madison has also been busy working on a continent project. She had to give a little presentation at school today. Last night we practiced and she sounded so cute - like a little Vanna White, with hand motions and all. She continues to do very well in school. She is also looking forward to Christmas break and our trip to Michigan. She can't wait to see her cousins again! She wrote a letter to Santa and it is fantastic. I thought I'd share it with you. Here goes: "Dear Santa: I really miss you and I have been really good this year. I really want an MP3 player. I hope you have a nice fly all around the world. Sorry to bother you if you are so busy. I want you to know that you are the best traveller! Yours truly, Madison." How fun is that! :o)

Ella is also doing well. She is sporting a very cute short haircut and is very much into hair. She loves clips and headbands, etc. She is asking Santa for a pink brush and mirror. Also a table that she can sit at to brush her hair. (We think she means a little vanity....) She is also asking for a Leapster and new pajamas. She is doing well in school too; she loves her little friends Julia and Scotty and Mason. She just went to her very first birthday party where I dropped her off. She was so proud! She felt like such a big girl!

Well, my cup of tea is gone and I should try to head back to bed and try to get a little sleep before my kids crawl into bed with me. I hope everyone is doing well and know that I think about all of you often, especially this time of year. Thank you, everyone, who has kept my aunt in your prayers. She continues to battle the cancer and is still at the clinic in Houston. She will be coming home just a few days before Christmas.

With that, I'm going to sign off. Goodnight y'all. Sleep tight.
